Google Maps Adds a Great New Feature

Googlemaps_3Google Maps has always been a useful tool for businesses, and I've found the results and interface to be much better than MapQuest. For clients, being able to link to their specific business address on a Google Map has become a standard feature/page on Compelling web sites.

Now Google has released a (sort of) new feature that makes it very easy to embed a customized map into a web site. This "embedding" feature has been available for awhile, but required more time to implement and usually wasn't worth the effort. Now it's a two-step process.

There are lots of great business applications for this new feature, and with the map embedded right in your web site, there's less chance that vistors will leave your site.

  • show customers where you're located, and provide them with accurate directions
  • real estate professionals can list properties for sale, with photos and details
  • make a "testimonial map" that shows your geographic reach while providing endorsements
  • builders can highlight their portfolio of work, at the locations where it was completed
  • create a "neighbourhood map" of community involvement projects

We've already started to integrate this feature into our clients web sites, a few examples are below:

> G&R Pure Water - New store location
> CARDP AGM - Conference event map

Get in touch with Compelling Design to see how we can create a custom Google Map for you, and ways to share it with your customers and clients or get it on your web site.
